Terms of service

The agreement for using Speaklively. Short, and written to be read — the parts that decide whether you get your money back are in section 5.

These terms cover the Speaklively app for macOS and the website at www.speaklively.com. Installing or using the app means accepting them. They took effect on 28 August 2026.

1Who this is with

Speaklively is a product of Takeoff Digi Labs (OPC) Private Limited, No. 5/1, Soodamanipuram, Karaikudi, Sivaganga District, Tamil Nadu 630003, India — referred to below as “we” and “us”. Your agreement is with that company.

It is a one-person company, and that person is the one who builds Speaklively. So there is no support department to be escalated through: you can reach a human at hello@takeoffdigilabs.com, and it is the same human either way.

2What you may do with the app

You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Speaklively on Macs you control, for your own work — paid or unpaid, personal or commercial. That is the whole intent of it, and nothing below is meant to narrow it for ordinary use.

What the licence does not cover:

  • redistributing, reselling, renting or sublicensing the app;
  • removing or altering its signing, its update mechanism, or notices of authorship;
  • reverse engineering, decompiling or disassembling it, except exactly as far as the law where you live says you may regardless of this sentence;
  • using it to build a competing service out of the access it gives you to our proxy — see section 9.

The app remains ours. Buying a plan buys a licence and the service behind it, not ownership of the software.

3What is free, and what costs money

The dividing line is whether a feature costs anything each time it runs. Everything that runs on your own Mac costs us nothing when you use it, so there is nothing there we could honestly charge for:

WhatPrice
Dictation, live transcription, Original and Tidy, and your historyFree forever. Not free for now — free, permanently, with no expiry and no account
AI Rewrites (Polish and Structure) on your own Anthropic API keyFree forever. You pay Anthropic directly for what you use; we are not involved
AI Rewrites on our key, to try15 free with no account, then 100 more once you verify an email address. Counted once, not monthly
AI Rewrites on our key, after that$39 per year

Cancel any time and Speaklively keeps working — just add your own key. Running out of the free allowance, letting a plan lapse, or cancelling never disables dictation, transcription, Tidy or your history, and never takes away anything already on your Mac. The app falls back to running locally and tells you that is what it did.

An allowance is spent by a rewrite you asked for. Background work the app does on its own is not counted against it, and a rewrite that fails does not count either.

4Accounts and fair use

An account is an email address you have verified with a six-digit code. There is no password. Keep access to the address, because it is how you sign in on another Mac.

  • An account is for one person. You may use it on the Macs you personally use; it is not a key to be shared with a team, and a reasonable device limit may be applied to enforce that. If you need seats for other people, write and ask.
  • Both the free allowance and a paid plan carry a quiet fair-use ceiling well above real use. It exists for the runaway case — an automated loop, a script, a shared key — and not to police normal dictating. If you ever meet it while genuinely using the app, that is our mistake to fix, so tell us.
  • One person, one free allowance. Making extra accounts, or reinstalling, to get more free rewrites is not allowed and does not work.

5Payment, renewal and refunds

Checkout is not open yet. As of 28 August 2026 there is no way to pay for Speaklively and nobody has been charged. The free allowance and your own API key are the two ways to use the AI Rewrites today. This section states the terms that will apply when payment opens, so that they are settled and public before anybody’s card is involved rather than after.

The subscription

  • $39 per year, charged when you subscribe and on each renewal, unless the price shown at checkout says otherwise — the price at checkout is the one that governs.
  • It renews automatically each year until you cancel. You will be told before a renewal is charged.
  • Payment is taken by a third-party merchant of record, who is the seller for that transaction and handles tax. Your card details go to them and never reach us.

Cancelling

Cancel any time. Cancelling means the plan does not renew — it does not end the year you already paid for. You keep everything until the date it was paid through, and then the app falls back to local features and your own key, exactly as described in section 3.

Refunds

  • Within 14 days of a charge, ask and you get your money back. No reason needed and no questions to answer.
  • After 14 days, a renewal charged for a year you have not started using will also be refunded if you ask promptly — the intent is that nobody pays for a year they did not mean to buy.
  • Where your local law gives you a stronger right to cancel or be refunded, that law wins over this section.
  • Refunds go back the way they came, through the merchant of record. Write to hello@takeoffdigilabs.com and it will be started for you.

6Beta software, and what that means

Speaklively is in an early, actively developed state. Practically:

  • It requires macOS 26 on Apple silicon, and depends on speech models Apple provides. If Apple changes them, behaviour can change with them.
  • It updates itself, and updates can change how features work or replace them.
  • Features may be added, changed or withdrawn. If something you paid for is withdrawn during a year you have paid for, you get a proportional refund.
  • The service behind the AI Rewrites can be unavailable — ours, or Anthropic’s. That is why the local half never depends on it.

7Your dictations are yours

You keep every right to what you dictate and to what comes back from a rewrite. We claim no licence over it, do not train anything on it, and do not store it — the privacy policy sets out exactly what does get stored, which is counts and costs.

You are responsible for what you dictate: for having the right to send it, and for judging whether a given piece of text should be sent to a third-party model at all. The app is built so that decision is yours each time — nothing leaves without a press.

8Anthropic, Apple, and your own key

Text sent for an AI Rewrite is processed by Anthropic, under Anthropic’s own terms and privacy policy, whether it travels on our key or yours. On your own key you are Anthropic’s customer directly and are billed by them; we neither see nor hold that key.

Speech recognition uses Apple’s on-device models and is subject to Apple’s software licence for your Mac. Nothing in these terms affects your agreement with either company.

9Acceptable use

Do not use Speaklively, or the access it gives you, to:

  • route traffic that is not your own dictation through our proxy — it is a metered path for this app, not a general-purpose API key;
  • resell, share or automate access to the allowance, or extract a key or token from the app for use elsewhere;
  • break the law where you are, infringe someone else’s rights, or process material you have no right to process;
  • attack, overload or probe the service, or attempt to reach parts of it that are not yours.

10Ending it, from either side

You can stop at any time: cancel a plan, delete your account, or just delete the app. Nothing local stops working, and your history is on your own disk either way.

We may suspend or end access for a serious or repeated breach of section 9, or where continuing would be unlawful. Where the problem is fixable you will be told what it is and given a chance to fix it first. If we end a paid plan for any reason other than such a breach, the unused part is refunded.

If the project itself has to end, paid subscribers will be told in advance and refunded for the unused part of the year. The local half of the app does not depend on our servers, and a final build that keeps working on its own is the intended outcome rather than a favour.

11Warranty and liability

The app and the service are provided as is. Beyond what is promised in these terms, there is no warranty that they will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose — dictation is recognition, and recognition is sometimes wrong. Check what it wrote before you send it; the app is built to show you first for exactly this reason.

Where liability can lawfully be limited, ours is limited to the amount you paid in the twelve months before the claim — which, for a free user, is nothing. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profits, lost data, or the consequences of text that was transcribed or rewritten incorrectly.

Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, and for any consumer rights you have that a contract cannot sign away.

12Changes to these terms

These terms can change as the product does. The date at the top says when the current text took effect. A change that materially affects you — price, what you get, or your rights here — is announced by email to account holders before it applies, and never applied retroactively to a year already paid for. Continuing to use the app after a change means accepting it; if you would rather not, cancel and any unused paid time is refunded.

13Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and disputes go to the courts of Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu. If you are a consumer somewhere else, this does not take away the protection of your own country’s consumer law or your right to bring a claim there.

If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
